Disney Destiny vs Disney Wish: Which Disney Ship Is Better?

If you’re trying to decide between the Disney Destiny and the Disney Wish, you’re not alone. These two ships represent Disney Cruise Line’s newest generation of cruise ships, and on paper they look very similar. But there are some key differences in design, theming, and onboard experience that can make one a better choice depending on what kind of cruise you’re looking for.

This guide breaks down how the Disney Destiny and Disney Wish compare so you can decide which ship is right for your family, your travel style, and your budget. I’ll be updating this post with firsthand Destiny details after my sailing.

Size & Layout

Both ships are part of Disney’s newer ship class, which means they share a modern design, updated technology, and more immersive themed spaces than older Disney ships.

The Disney Wish introduced this layout style, and the Disney Destiny builds on that same design philosophy. You can expect wide public areas, central gathering spaces, and a layout that feels more like a floating resort than a traditional cruise ship.

Where they may differ is in how the themed spaces flow together. Destiny is expected to feel more story-driven and cinematic throughout the ship, while Wish already leans heavily into immersive environments. Once I’m onboard Destiny, I’ll update this section with real comparisons on crowd flow, deck layout, and how easy it is to navigate each ship.

Dining

Dining is a huge part of the Disney cruise experience, and both ships use Disney’s rotational dining system. This means you rotate through three main dining rooms while your serving team follows you each night.

The Disney Wish introduced highly themed dining rooms like Worlds of Marvel and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure. The Disney Destiny continues this trend with its own immersive dining experiences, including 1923, Worlds of Marvel, and Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King.

Both ships also offer casual dining options, poolside quick-service food, buffets, and coffee shops. For adults, each ship includes specialty dining such as Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté.

The biggest difference between the two will come down to theming and atmosphere. Wish leans heavily into Frozen and Marvel, while Destiny adds Lion King theming and expanded cinematic storytelling. I’ll update this section once I’ve experienced Destiny’s restaurants in person.

Entertainment

Entertainment is one of Disney Cruise Line’s biggest strengths. Both ships feature Broadway-style stage shows, character experiences, themed deck parties, and movie theaters showing Disney films.

The Disney Wish debuted new stage productions and immersive experiences, and the Disney Destiny is expected to raise the bar even higher with new original shows and updated entertainment concepts.

Both ships also offer family game shows, deck parties, and live music in lounges throughout the ship. Once I’ve sailed Destiny, I’ll share how the two compare in terms of show quality, crowd size, and overall atmosphere.

Cabins

Both ships offer similar stateroom categories:

  • Inside staterooms
  • Ocean view staterooms
  • Verandah staterooms
  • Concierge suites

The layouts are expected to be very similar, with Disney’s signature split bathrooms, plenty of storage, and family-friendly designs.

I’ll be staying in an ocean view stateroom on the Disney Destiny and will update this section with photos and comparisons after my sailing.

Family vs Adult Experience

Both ships are designed for families, but they also include dedicated adult-only areas so couples and solo travelers can relax.

Families will love the kids’ clubs, character meet-and-greets, and family-friendly dining experiences on both ships. Adults can enjoy quiet pools, upscale lounges, and adult-only dining venues.

The main difference may come down to vibe. Destiny is expected to feel slightly more cinematic and immersive, while Wish already feels like a floating theme park. I’ll update this section once I’ve experienced Destiny firsthand.

Price

Pricing for Disney cruises varies by season, itinerary, and cabin type. In general, newer ships tend to be more expensive during their first year.

Disney Destiny sailings are expected to be priced similarly to Disney Wish, especially for early sailings. Over time, prices may fluctuate as more itineraries are added.

The best way to decide which offers better value is to compare sailings for your travel dates.
